PM's Update - Disability Support and Re-opening Support

This morning, the Prime Minister announced the following:

Disabilty related measures

  • a one-time, non-taxable payment, of up to $600 for those with disability

    • this will be reduced for the OAS and GIS one time payments if the disabled person is eligible for them

    • eligibility is contingent on a valid disability credit certificate

  • a national workplace program accessibility stream through the Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities

  • an Accessible Technology Program to make communication easier for Canadians with disabilities in the digital economy

Re-opening support

$14 Billion will be committed to efforts. Funds will be targeted on the following areas:

  • more PPE for healthcare workers on the frontline

  • more PPE for businesses

  • childcare support

  • seniors and others at high risk

  • sick pay of up to 10 days (federal government would provide the funds)

  • fund to municipalities to support public transit and city programs

Other

  • The PM reiterated that a list of CEWS applicants would be published.
